Significant increase in noise and air pollution: Gatwick expansion on such a huge scale would have a material adverse impact on the health, lives and mental wellbeing of those living near the airport and under flight paths. Aircraft noise from Gatwick is already a major issue. Such a significant increase in flights and traffic will make air pollution much worse and have a material adverse effect on the UK's ability to meet its carbon reduction targets. Previous applications from Gatwick for a 2nd runway have been repeatedly rejected for sound environmental reasons, adverse impact on surrounding communities and countryside, much of it Green Belt and/or AONB, and lack of evidence of need, given proximity to Heathrow and 3 other major London airports.
