We live in Edenbridge and we are already blighted by the increased number of flights going across our property. Despite modern aircraft design and the empty promise of better managed flight paths, we do see and hear them almost constantly. I can hear them as I type this. In the past ten years they have become so frequent that at times there is virtually one every one and a half minutes. I’ve taken phone calls in my garden and been asked by the caller if I’m at the airport as the noise is so audible! Even with our modern glazed windows closed, we can hear them. They also fly much lower these days and often appear to circle over our area. I’m not against flying but even with todays one runway at Gatwick the constant flow of flights across our property is detrimental to our life at home. Another runway would only exacerbate the problem further and I fear it would get as bad as living near Heathrow. At night the flights seem to be just as frequent as daytime, there really is no break to the disruption caused to peaceful living. There’s a constant flickering of plane lights through our lounge window. I also support the arguments against a second runway on environmental grounds and the fact that any growth at Gatwick will not improve the economics for the local community.
