simultaneous use of 2 runways at Gatwick airport would have devastating impacts locally and globally. The expansion plan would: increase in aircraft noise and pollution resulting in negative impact on the wellbeing of people and nature in a wide area around Gatwick exacerbation of climate emergency because of much increased number of flights emitting greenhouse gases more pressure on the rail and road networks serving the airport, with an estimated 76 million more passengers per year adding to a further decline in air quality there is no existing second runway currently operating in conjunction with the main runway (it is only used when the main runway is not being used) – so Gatwick is misleading residents about the current existence of a ‘second’ runway. Undermining the government’s aviation strategy. The proposal is for a new runway – not bringing an existing runway into regular use, as claimed.
