I totally disagree with this project. As an employer on the Airport there is no need to go ahead with this. The airport can not cope with the operation as it stands as this past summer shows, so to add more movements is just madness and will cause further inconvenience to the travelling public. Companies on airport find it hard to employ and retain staff so to say it will create more jobs begs the question: Where are these staff coming from if they can not fill the vacancies now. The airport needs a complete revamp if we are to compete with other European Airports and not only new assets but new ways of doing things in the interests of the travelling public not the bank balance. Why, for instance are there two flights departing to the same destination with in minutes of each other on many days. Why have airlines and handling agents cut back on staff so badly that customer service has gone out the window. Why is the South Terminal ceiling still being worked on after nearly 6 years. Why has there not been any refurbishments to offices or even a lick of paint. Why do we still have to complain about the lack of cleaning. These are all questions that should be asked. The money set aside for this project could be used for all of the above and more. Gatwick Airport used to be the shining star of the South East. We were just the best and it is sad to see its decline over the past 10 years. The answer is to bring it back to how it was. New systems, new assets and new ways of doing things. If the general public get a good deal and experience then the rest will fall into place and revenue will shoot up with out the need for all the chaos that will ensue should this project be allowed to commence.
