Increasing airport capacity and therefore flight numbers will increase emissions and air and noise pollution. Expansion will negatively affect those living under flight paths as well as current and future generations whose quality of life will decline enormously compared with current conditions due to the impacts of climate change. Plans for airport expansion are completely misaligned with what science tells us is necessary for a livable future on our planet. There is no technology that will make sustainable air travel at scale possible in the near term (i.e. several decades) without serious negative knock on effects on e.g. land availability for food production. This expansion is a clear sign that profits for the few continue to be prioritised over human and environmental wellbeing for the many.
