We know that aviation is a significant contributor of carbon emissions. We also know that we are approaching likely irreversible tipping points and negative impact climate changes as a result of not cutting our carbon emissions. It makes no sense to invest in extending this facility for airlines to pollute, when the Government’s own advisory body, the CCC, made up of experts, called for a stop to airport expansion in 2022. The southeast is already strongly impacted noise- and pollution-wise by a huge number of flights via Gatwick and Heathrow - this change will see even more areas blighted by noise pollution. Time to start reducing flights and investing in cleaner ways to travel.
