I have lived under the Gatwick flight path for over 20 years and in that time the frequency and number of flights has increased greatly. During the summer months we have planes going over our house at 90 second intervals. There has also been large increase in flights between 12am to 5am which I thought was prohibited. The consequence of these increased flights and early mornings flights has had a detrimental affect on my families health, well being and enjoyment of our home. The existing two runways at Gatwick are more than capable of handling the flight numbers that the airport and surrounding area can sustain. I would be very opposed to utilising the emergency runaway as a third runway and this will only lead to more misery to the local population and increased traffic on the already busy roads around the airport.
