I write to object to the proposed use of the Northern Runway at Gatwick Airport. The proposed changes to operations at Gatwick and the resultant increases in noise and air quality emissions will harm a significant number of noise-sensitive receptors. The assessments and modelling are flawed and present an overly favourable position. Against the objective of minimising noise impact, allowing use of the second runway will only have an adverse impact on this objective. While it is proposed that flight path improvements, mitigation, and compensation allow for the impacts to be sufficiently mitigated, any increase in flights and changes to the flight path increase the number of residential receptors impacted by noise. There will also be a detrimental impact on air quality. I therefore object to the proposal on the grounds the resultant impacts are likely more harmful than explained and the harm cannot be mitigated.
