I wish to object to the second runway at Gatwick Airport for the following reasons: 1. The airports at Southampton, Luton and Stanstead have excess capacity (i.e. they are operating at less than full capacity). There is therefore no need for this additional runway at Gatwick. 2. The existing infrastructure of road and rail serving Gatwick Airport is already at capacity by reference to West Sussex County Council data. There is no realistic possibility that road and rail infrastructure could expand to accommodate the additional capacity being sought by Gatwick. 3. There is already noise and pollution resulting from the airport. This is well documented. I live in Warnham not under a flight path. When the ADNID trial took place Warnham was suddenly subjected to considerable noise and pollution. I made a choice not to live under a flight path. The provision of a second runway at Gatwick with the expansion of capacity will inevitably result in increased noise and pollution affecting an area wider than that currently existing. 4. It is much hyped about the additional jobs that expanding Gatwick with a second runway will bring. This means that additional housing will be required to serve the airport - where will this go? Currently there is a struggle to provide the housing numbers already required. If housing cannot be provided locally how are the workers to get to the airport? Roads and rail as stated above are already at capacity. 5. There is a case that the countryside within a 20 mile radius of Gatwick should have a maximum noise level of 45 dBl before any expansion be considered. This could be enforced by setting up a new body similar to the ACNVSA in France which could monitor Gatwick plane noise and have the ability to fine aircraft companies for any noise over 45 dBl (World Health Organisation Guideline).
