Crawley as a whole is ever expanding. Infrastructure around the town is already suffering from new build housing. Higher passenger demand will increase congestion on roads and in the town centre. crawley hospital/redhill also extremely busy and adding further people into the area will only drain these resources more. Gatwick’s proposed movement rate once the northern runway is amended is fictional, the actual throughput will be less, the idea has come from modelling in LAX,SFO and Düsseldorf, the later is not busy and the first 2 experience in excess of 300 days of blue sky weather. the plan does not fit the local environmental weather. Gatwick is the most efficient single runway in the world. In order to deliver this project the main runway exits will be amended making it less efficient, resulting in a lower movement rate than currently when the northern cannot be used at the same time due to weather. Again Illogical and likely to cause mass disruption to the travelling public. There is no plan to redevelop the ground layout or the airport, modern airports are now designed with lots of parallel taxiways links which can be used in multiple directions and toaster rack terminals. The project management of GAL is poor, current example is the Echo Romeo works, a link created that at any other airport could be used in any direction to provide flexibility and reduce delays, this was deemed out of scope at gatwick . No projects are linked. The airport currently struggles for gates and has high taxiway delay during the summer due to the amount of aircraft scheduled, all this increases passenger stress, draws on ambulance and police resources for passengers and increases air pollution with aircraft running engines for longer than necessary. Gatwick requires expansion but in a meaningful way. An independent second runway. increased police station size. Own medical/ambulance station and contribution to local road expansion and improvement.
