I believe it is essential to benefit both Gatwick Airport and the wider community that it supports from a tourism, local and national economy and employment perspective that the Northern runway application is successful. I would temper this with an inclusion that there should be an extension to the Gatwick Express service extended to be be a true High-Speed service so that it can reach both LHR and Stansted in 30-45 mins, using both standard and bonded trains. This would enable the 3 airports to hub for each other and the bonded trains to support checked in transfer passengers. Therefore transfers between the 3 airports becomes possible making their utilisation more efficient and can balance the loadings accordingly. Whilst there may be concerns about additional flights and traffic in and around LGW, the infrastructure to support this must precede the runway construction / use. Also, development of a fallback emergency runway is needed to alleviate concerns surrounding this possible issue. Flight time limitations will need to apply, so that there isn't night time flights slipped in as part of this development.
