I am writing to object strongly to Gatwick Airport's proposal to expand the use of the second runway. This will be hugely damaging to the quality of our local environment and our lives here in Groombridge and the surrounding area. The hugely negative impact of aircraft noise throughout the year, but especially in summer, is immense. During the summer months, flights are literally constant between the early hours up until very late in the evening. So much so that any outdoor activities or socal events are ruined and we have to keep our bedroom windows closed during hot nights. Enough is enough. I am also concerned there is also the invisible health risk associated with increased air pollution. Constant noise and increasing air pollution is hugely damaging to the quality of our lives and our physical and mental health. In addition, this Gatwick expansion makes achieving net zero targets impossible which is unethical and in the long term hugely expensive to rectify.
