Gatwick Airport is one of the largest contributors to the economy of the immediate airport hinterland and a large part of the Southeast. The UK and its future generations cannot expect to maintain and improve on our current levels of income and social support without encouraging continued and sustained economic growth. Gatwick and its expansion is an important contributor. The airport's expansion should be encouraged and supported. If this expansion is refused the investment will be lost and taken elsewhere. As long as the planning process obtains the most sustainable solution possible there should be little if any environmental objection. Objecting simply to move the problem elsewhere is not, in my view, an acceptable argument.
