The proposal isn’t serving a wider public good and will cause a great deal of social, environmental and economic loss to those living beneath the flight paths. There is no evidence that those who cannot procure flights currently will be able to do so post the opening up of the additional runway with the only gain being made by the owners of the airport. That gain is not in the public interest and comes at a great financial and environmental loss to residents and the local area. The very real and material impact of the proposal is not outweighed by any potential benefit. If economic growth from the aviation industry is needed then that growth should be focused on smaller regional airports where the impact will not be as extensive as the current proposal.
