As a regular user of Gatwick it is great to see our fantastic local airport thriving. Whilst I share concerns around the environmental impact of flying and welcome initiatives for more environmentally friendly planes I believe that using our local airport and supporting carriers like easyJet who provide affordable travel with high occupancy rates provides the best compromise. At the moment during bad weather particularly it is common to be kept in a holding pattern when coming into land, burning fuel above Sussex for no reason and delaying the arrival of the flight. Two runway operation will have the ability to reduce such delays and also allow more slots during existing operation hours and at times which work with existing travel links and customer preferences whilst safeguarding quiet hours for the benifit of those living locally. The airport is good for the local economy and supports many jobs locally and I hope the local community will continue to support it as long as development is managed in a sustainable way.
