I live close to Gatwick airport. Flights pass above our house. At the moment there are several flights a day and these can be quite noisy under certain weather conditions. It was very noticeably quieter and much more peaceful during lockdown when flights were significantly restricted. If the number of flights increase significantly then the noise levels will significantly increase. This will impact on our quality of life and all the wildlife that lives in the surrounding countryside. The same comments can be applied to air pollution issues. We are being told all the time about human impact on the globe and air pollution from combustion engines is a very significant contributor. Surely we should be encouraging everyone to fly less not more. I understand there is no tax paid on aircraft fuel which contributes to low air fares and high demand for low cost travel. If tax was charged on fuel then fares would be higher and this would discourage flying which would be better for the planet.
