National Policy: Expansion of Gatwick will have a material impact on the UK’s ability to meet its carbon reduction targets. Locally: Carbon emissions will also result from construction works and increased road traffic to the airport. Flights and traffic will make air pollution worse. In Maidenbower Crawley: The increase in the number of flights will increase the number of night flights and will increase the number of aircraft performing an abort (go-around) and then flying low over Crawley and Maidenbower to make their second attempt+ to land. Pollution directly affecting the health and wellbeing of residents will increase.
