This is effectively a second runway which was previously rejected by the government in favour of Heathrow. The use of the second runway at Gatwick would increase pollution (including noise) to the surrounding area with detrimental affect to the environment. It would have an adverse impact on climate change and the efforts to reverse that change. The Aviation Environment Federation calculates that the runway and passenger growth would add about 1 million tonnes of CO2 by 2050 putting climate commitments in doubt.
