The main issue is, given that more air travel capacity is needed for south east England, where is the most suitable location. Heathrow is certainly not a good location - for two main reasons: first, much extra land would be required; and, second, the area around is already economically ‘overheated’. At Gatwick, no extra land is needed and the local economy (especially the wider area of West and East Sussex to the south of the airport) would benefit from some economic stimulation.
