I believe expansion at Gatwick would be very negative for the environment and I strongly object to bringing in the emergency runway for routine use. It would have a negative impact on the health of those living in the region, through increased aircraft emissions and increased traffic compared with not expanding the airport. This is coupled with the fact that one of the world’s most popular airports is close by - it is simply not needed. We are in a climate emergency and this proposal is totally at odds with reducing our carbon footprint. The increase in the number of overhead flights will also cause greater noise pollution across a wide area, the frequency of flights causing a detriment to the quality of life of myself, my family and all those hundreds of thousands of residents in the vicinity.
