The growth of London Gatwick is vital to reinvigorate and protect the regional and wider UK economy for many years to come. It will create more capacity for visitors to spend money in the UK, provide more jobs, drive investment in local businesses and support charities to deliver critical services to people in need. For me personally, London Gatwick is iconic, critical UK infrastructure that I am very fond of, having lived in the area all my life, it has to remain competitive to other London airports to be able to serve the increase in demand from UK and international travellers. Compared to Heathrow that would have needed to cause unfathomable damage to create a 3rd runway to cater for demand as well as an already congested road network around it, London Gatwick's plan to bring it's existing emergency runway into routine use is a no brainer. It's being sympathetically designed to minimise impact on the rich biodiversity around the local area, as well as being planned with intense scrutiny as to how it can be done with minimal environmental impact through considerate use of materials, the careful planning of surface transport, and working closely with the airlines on how to manage the impact of increased air traffic on the environment and local residents. I fully support bringing London Gatwick's emergency runway into routine use.
