I do not want a second runway at Gatwick. The assumption with this project is that we need employment in the SE - we do not. We have full employment. We do not have sufficient housing for the people who are already living in the SE and we do not want any more building on Green Belt land. To tarmac/concrete over huge swathes of land which should be used for food production and give space for nature to thrive also causes further problems of flooding etc. We live very close to Gatwick. The present infrastructure - roads, rail, schools, doctors, hospitals etc are insufficient for the present population - we cannot cope with more traffic and more people who are needing the everyday necessities for a good quality of life. Planes are getting larger. Throughput of take offs/landings are getting more efficient and therefore the use of the present single runway is sufficient. Much greater use should be made of regional airports so that people from the north, south west, west and east of the country do not need to come to Gatwick to catch their flight - travellers do not want the extra hassle and expense of travelling to Gatwick. All these extra journeys by road and rail are effecting people’s quality of life. We have been battling constant threats of the construction of a second runway at Gatwick for years and years. The proposal of a second runway must finally be put aside and no longer be a consideration. Gatwick is big enough.
