Objecting for the following reasons: negative impact on climate control, the cost of clean up will be be staggeringly expensive and the tax payer will be asked to foot the bill. It will also result in increased noise, light, air pollution and traffic in the area, negative impact on wildlife and the ecosystem, Gatwick is effectively reducing employees with increased automation, Gatwick cannot operate an efficient service with one runway with many cancellations and delayed planes on a daily basis, if there is another Covid or continued downturn in the economy then less people will be travelling which will lead to lay offs etc. It would be better to diversify and attract other businesses to the area. Gatwick employees travel to the airport from a distance greater than that would permit them to walk or cycle leading to increased congestion on the roads. Gatwick struggles to look for workers as it stands, fulfilling the proposed jobs would be extremely difficult from the local area. Typical salaries paid at Gatwick make it very difficult for people to buy or rent in the area therefore they would need to travel into the area increasing pressure on the public transport network. If the second runway were to be approved this would impact not just Sussex / Surrey but many other counties including Kent due to increased passenger numbers (expected to be more than double), freight and employees getting to work etc. This is not just an expansion of the northern runway, it includes a wide range of activities which will extend beyond the airport boundary eg a new hotel, offices, increasing its infrastructure and building extensions to both the Northern and Southern runways.
