The main issues are increased noise and environmental damage to local residents. New departure and arrival routes will affect more people and increase noise disturbance to local residents dramatically. A lack of demand in shoulder periods of the day means Gatwick is not full, there are times of the day when the airport is not busy - they only want to be able to sell expensive extra slots to low cost carriers in peak times, which are the times that cause the most disturbance to people. Furthermore, this doesn’t benefit consumers or add choice it will only see yet more low cost carriers come in to Gatwick - in fact freezing out other carriers and reducing choice and competition. There is not the infrastructure for increased flights and I don’t believe that increasing flights helps the environment and our attempts to get to net zero.
