This massive airport expansion will come at a huge carbon cost, from its construction, from the increase in flights and from increased travel to access the airport. Currently there are no low carbon technologies ready to deploy at scale for air travel so this project will make it even more difficult to meet the UK's carbon reduction commitments which are absolutely essential in order to prevent the catastrophic effects of runaway climate change. The airport expansion will also increase noise pollution and a ban on night flights should be in place and should be a condition of any expansion.
