I am extremely concerned that the increase in the number of flights generated by this proposed expansion of Gatwick airport will make it impossible to achieve the government’s stated objective of achieving net zero carbon by 2050. There is no realistic alternative to the burning of fossil fuels to power the increased flights and the increased carbon emissions will increase the severity of the climate emergency being experienced globally. Even the Gatwick airport shareholders will be adversely impacted by any expansion - there is no escaping the climate crisis - and I am painfully aware that the true impact of increased carbon emissions will affect my two daughters and their children, as well as people globally but mostly in the countries that will benefit least from this action economically. As I sit writing this email at 22:30 on a Sunday evening I can hear planes flying over my home and obviously this will only increase with so many more flights. This proposal is totally illogical and driven solely by the greed of a few individuals. I object to any the expansion of Gatwick airport.
