At a time when the world is facing a climate crisis and the UK is on a trajectory to reduce its C02 carbon emissions, it seems absurd to be considering the expansion of air traffic at Gatwick and adding to the problem. Not only is having more air traffic going to hugely contribute to air pollution, it will also increase the amount of road traffic which itself comes with its own set of problems. It goes without saying that if this expansion were to go ahead, there would be a massive increase in noise pollution over the areas affected by the flight paths, including Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. During the summer months and at peak travel times throughout the year, the air traffic under the existing flight path/s can feel almost never ending. To have even more planes flying overhead would be devastating to the tranquility and air quality of the British countryside as well as to the residents and day trippers seeking some peace and quiet and fresh air.
