I am a school governor at [Redacted], in the local area. I’ve reviewed the details of the project, and although I am aware that areas sometimes need to change because of changing demographics, I am concerned that this has not been thought through. It appears to me that Anglian Water’s main incentive for the project comes from the government funding it will received, rather than the benefits and costs of the project. In particular, it faces little incentive to consider environmental impact. Even at recent consultations and inspections, it has been found that AW did not consider sufficiently the possibility of maintaining and upgrading its existing site. In a time where we all need to be considering the environment, implementing an environmentally costly project without significant benefit goes against the scientific warnings, that we are in a moment of environmental urgency. If this project was necessary, despite being local and knowing there would be costs to the area, I would understand the need for someone to bear the cost of change. However, this does not seem to be such a project, and is likely to do more harm to the world around us than good.
