What a ridiculous waste of resources! There is a perfectly working sewage treatment plant at Milton which is fully working and was last upgraded in 2014. The scheme proposes to move the treatment plant a mile from the River Cam and up a hill – It is called Honey Hill for a reason. So all the sewage will have to be pumped up a hill, together with a quantity of fresh water. I have concerns about the energy required to pump everything uphill and the security of the energy to supply it 24/7. And why? So that 5000 new homes can be built on a flood plain close to Cambridge. Who is going to pay for the movement of the sewage plant? Well , it will be the people who buy these new homes on top of the normal costs of buying land and building houses. That bill is £227m. It’s difficult to see how these could be affordable homes. Honey Hill is in the Cambridge Green Belt so effectively the scheme to build new homes will result in the loss of Green Belt. If building new homes is the issue why not just build them on Honey Hill? The locals will still object but it’s a much better use of resources.
