Consultation on the move of the WWTP started with a Webinar. Having no idea what procedure would be followed, I simply followed the instructions. The first was to submit written questions. I submitted six, all on the Wicken Fen Vision and the environment. Not one of these questions was answered, either then or later. This set the standard for the consultation. Anglia Water set the program and drove the subsequent events to achieve their objectives. The Wicken Fen Vision is a remarkable undertaking to enhance and safeguard the most bio-diverse site in the whole of the UK. By chance, not planning, when the A14 was constructed this area was virtually cut off by the A14 in the south, the River Cam in the west and Wicken Fen in the north – the only agricultural access exists from the east. Anglia Water, together with nearly ever other local organization supported the Vision at its inception. When Cambridge is expanding so rapidly this natural area will become even more important. A recent map, produced by AW itself, shows the disastrous effect the resiting of the WWTP to Honey Hill, will have on the direct access from Cambridge. The Honey Hill site was preferred to the site at Milton. The site at Milton also features 48 hectars of waste landfill site. A Park and Ride for 792 cars. Major supermarket with parking for 500 cars An early 20thcentury industrial site Waste Recycling Centre and shortly The City Police HQ Two extremely busy inter-city road routes. ( A14 and A10 ) Why ruin a rare environment for one which has already been so heavily compromised.
