*The Cambridge Sewage works have been designed to provide sufficient capacity until 2050. Anglia Water has stated that there is no operational need to move the works. Why move them? *Taxpayers’ money would be used to move the works. At a time of financial crisis this project is a poor use of £227 million, plus at least 10% for inflation. **The site proposed for the new works is totally unsuitable given that it is 1on top of a chalk aquifer and 2 on Green Belt land. ***The amount of carbon released during the building of the new works would be huge and contrary to Cambridge City Council’s aim to be carbon net zero by 2030. Pumps would be needed to pump the sewage uphill 24/7 thereby increasing the carbon emissions in the operation of the works.
