I understand development pressures and the need for compromise. But the risk now of environmental damage in a changing climate is so high, and escalating, that it should be the first consideration in all planning decisions not relegated to the controversial realm of ‘mitigation’. “First, do no harm”. This move is both environmentally damaging and not necessary. I have followed the plans closely and there are viable alternatives for housing in north-east Cambridge that would not eat into green belt and/or agricultural land. Planners need to start looking at ‘green belt’ as an asset above & beyond its legal status in 2023 & beyond.
