The proposed relocation of the perfectly functional sewage works from Milton appears to have no good reason other than to develop the site of the existing sewage works for profit. The carbon footprint of a cement-heavy construction project is enormous; this is simply unacceptable while we are in a severe and increasingly urgent climate and biodiversity crisis. In addition, there is a high risk of groundwater contamination in the area, because the site sits on a principal chalk aquifer. Quy Fen, which is very close to the proposed site, is a site of special scientific interest (SSSI), which—along with local wildlife—is being threatened by this development. Building an industrial facility of this scale within the Greenbelt that is meant to prevent urban sprawl is completely unacceptable, not to mention the effect of sewage odours on local residents and Fen Ditton Primary School.
